SUMATRA Arianto // natural

This coffee comes to us once again from Asman Gayo mill and owner/operator Asman Arianto. It is a sister lot to the Asman Gayo coffee and shares some characteristics with its sibling. Often times it makes economic sense to buy more than one lot at a time from any given producer and we felt this was a great opportunity to highlight how differently two closely related coffees can present. When producing coffee, there are infinite variables that may affect the taste of the final product including weather patterns, climate change, altitude, intercropping, and much more. Thus, we have two individual lots that share so many objective characteristics, and yet, present two unique experiences in the cup.

In contrast to its sister lot, this Sumatra release is a mellower, more easy-drinking cup. While the first lot carried a lot of the funk and fruitiness typical of a naturally processed coffee, this second release drinks a bit more like a washed coffee. It opens with a bright, slightly tart note like white grape, then softens to a round stonefruit note like red plum. On the finish, a lingering note of clove lasts beyond the sip.
